Attendees
at the more recent Sturgis Rallies were estimated to
be well over 600,000 comprising riders and just people
who just come along to watch the spectacle and take
part in the various social activities taking place.
These are listed as a weeklong series of rides, races,
campfires and musical events. In the background many
other social events are taking place making the Sturgis
Rally a real jamboree.
Catching a trip on the back of its better known German
counterpart, Biketoberfest, held in October,
at the Daytona track in Florida it sure has come a long way. With less emphasis
on racing and more on drinking and partying, the Biketoberfest
goes under the label of a biker rally. It is more
a celebration of life and of the Florida weather.
These huge international motorcycle events have become one of
the major attractions for motor cyclists, as well
as those who supply them. It goes without saying that
suppliers of bikes, parts and accessories converge
there to show of their products, and much business
is done during these motorcycle events.
All these huge rallies are big business for the vendors
who sponsor and attend them. Bikes, gear, clothing,
food and drink, and dozens of related (and sometimes
entirely unrelated) products are sold during the seven
days of organized mayhem.
But the major emphasis continues to remain squarely
where it is supposed to be: enjoying the world of
motorcycling.
